About the Topic

CAPITAL PUNISHMENTS AND THE RIGHT  TO LIVE

Capital punishment is a term which indicates muddled thinking. The dilemna of to kill or be killed, which confronts civilised society daily and inexorably,is bedeviled by the jumble of panic, superstition, and angry resentment, we call punishment, expiation, propitiatory blood sacrifice, justice and many other imposing names. The dilemna is a hard fact which must be faced and organised. The jumble should be unravelled and its superstitions utterly discarded .

Many oppose capital punishment and see the penalty as barbaric and against human values. We have seen the release of some highly publicised studies that show a number of innocents had been put to death. It creates sympathy for the monstrous perpetrators of the crime. Other's support the penalty and see the punishment as a very important tool in fighting violent pre-meditated murder and give closure to the  victims' families who have suffered so much. If "would-be" criminals know undoubtedly that they will be put to death should they murder with premeditation, many of them might ultimately decide to spare the victim's life.

Set out to explore the ethics  and legality of this system with NITCMUN'16 this 25th and 26th of June.
